OPTICAL WINDOWS

Optical windows are used to isolate different physical environments while allowing light to pass relatively unimpeded. Window types available are plane windows or Brewster windows.

We do not offer off-the-shelf components, but continue to provide custom manufactured optics per customer drawings and specifications with tight tolerances with a wide selection of materials up tp as large as 300 mm:

ASPHERIC LENSES

An aspheric lens or asphere is a lens whose surfaces have a profile that is neither a portion of a sphere nor of a circular cylinder. An aspherical lens is used in correcting distortion in ultra-wideangle lenses or coma in large-aperture lenses. The asphere’s more complex surface profile can eliminate spherical aberration and reduce other optical aberrations compared to a simple lens. A single aspheric lens can often replace a much more complex multi-lens system. The resulting device is smaller and lighter, and possibly cheaper than the multi-lens design.

The aspheric surface is precision molded, while the plano or spherical surface is ground and polished — ideal for light collection, projection, illumination, detection, and condensing applications.

Achromats

Achromats consist of two or more lenses, which must be fixed in relation to one another by either mounting or cement. Achromats are a combination of lenses made from materials of different refractive indexes, constructed in such a way as to minimize chromatic aberration (which in a single lens causes coloured fringes around images because the lens diffracts the different wavelengths in white light to slightly different extents).

Achromats are generally manufactured from crown glass and flint glass; although other materials such as fused silica and BK7 positive glass may be used.

OPTICAL CRYSTAL COMPONENTS

Optical crystals are transparent in different spectral regions, depending upon the crystal material. ArgusInternational, Ltd. manufactures optical crystal components up to 200 mm diameters

for ultraviolet, visible and infrared spectral regions made from KBr, NaCl, KCl, CsI, CaF2, BaF2, LiF, MgF2, ZnSe, Sapphire, Si, Ge, optical glasses, Astrosital and Fused Silica.

We produce both blanks and polished components with optical coatings as well. We have 100% input control of all raw material we use in the production of our components. Our products have certificates of conformance. We have special equipment for quality control of tight tolerances.

ASPHERICAL HYBRID CCD PLASTIC LENSES

The difficulty of making aspheric in glass, due to the grinding and polishing required, can create undue cost to the customer. The optics industry is less competitive in the bidding of these lenses due to this manufacturing process. We are able to offer a solution to this problem. Aspherical Hybrid Plastic Lenses improve image resolution and decrease distortion in many applications and can cost much less to the end-user.


Using our Aspherical Hybrid Plastic Lenses will help you considerably to reduce the number of optical elements needed in a CCD camera lens system, resulting in improved performance at substantial cost savings in most designs. We are also offering design consultation to solve any difficulty you encounter during project development.
